EV Charge Point Grants Explained: Funding for Landlords, Renters and Flat Owners

Landlords and renters can claim EV charger grants. Here’s what to know.

Landlords and renters can claim EV charger grants. Here’s what to know.

As electric vehicles (EVs) become more popular, the need for accessible and affordable charging infrastructure is greater than ever. To support this transition, the UK Government is offering EV charge point grants designed to make it easier for landlords, renters, or flat owners to install charging points at their properties. The main charge point grants are now confirmed to run until 31 March 2027, with increased funding available from 1 April 2026. However, one related landlord infrastructure grant is due to close on 31 March 2026.

Residential Landlord Charge Point Grant

What Is It?

The Residential Landlord Charge Point Grant provides funding to support the installation of electric vehicle charge point sockets at residential rental properties. Landlords can receive 75% of the cost to buy and install a socket, up to a maximum of £350 per socket. Landlords can receive up to 200 grants per financial year for residential properties.

From 1 April 2026, the maximum grant rate will increase to £500 per socket. This grant has been extended for a final year and will now run until 31 March 2027.

Application Process Update

From 1 April 2026, new applications for the Residential Landlord Charge point Grant will be made through the government’s Find a Grant platform. This will replace the current application portal. Landlords applying after this date will need to register for a Find a Grant account before submitting an application.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Who can apply: Residential landlords, right-to-manage (RTM) companies, residents’ management companies (RMC), private registered providers of social housing (PRP), public sector organisations, charities managing or owning residential property, and registered social housing providers in England or registered property factors in Scotland.
  • Property requirements: The property must be a residential rental property with dedicated off-street parking associated with the dwelling. Applications can be submitted for multiple properties, making it ideal for landlords with large portfolios.

Benefits for Landlords

  • Attract environmentally conscious tenants: Offering EV charging facilities can make your property more appealing to tenants who own or plan to own electric vehicles.
  • Increase property value: EV charging is seen as a valuable asset, future-proofing your property as EV adoption grows.
  • Government support: The grant reduces the financial burden of installing charge point sockets at your rental properties.

Plan Your Installation With Confidence

Don’t miss the chance to enhance your properties and support a greener future. The scheme is available until 31 March 2027. Planning early ensures you secure the correct funding level and meet all installation requirements.

Residential Landlord Infrastructure Grant – Closing 31 March 2026

Separate from the Residential Landlord Charge point Grant, the EV Infrastructure Grant supports wider building and installation work needed to prepare residential car parks for multiple charge point sockets.

This grant can cover:

• 75% of eligible infrastructure works, up to £30,000
• Up to £350 per charge point socket installed
• Up to £500 per parking space enabled with supporting infrastructure

The EV Infrastructure Grant will close on 31 March 2026. This is the final date for submitting new applications. Installations and grant claims must then be completed within the deadlines set by OZEV following approval.

EV Charge Point Grant for Renters and Flat Owners

What Is It?

The EV Charge point Grant for Renters and Flat Owners is tailored for individuals living in rented properties or flats. It helps them cover the costs of installing an EV charge point at home. This initiative ensures that EV ownership is accessible to a wider audience, regardless of housing type. The grant currently offers up to £350 per socket. From 1 April 2026, the maximum grant will increase to £500 per socket.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Who can apply: Individuals who own and live in a flat or rent any residential property (including properties under the shared ownership scheme).
  • Vehicle requirements: Applicants must own an eligible electric vehicle.
  • Property requirements: The property must have designated, private off-street parking suitable for a charge point installation.

Benefits for Renters and Flat Owners

  • Convenient charging: Say goodbye to the hassle of relying solely on public charging stations.
  • Affordable transition to EVs: The grant makes it more affordable to adopt an EV by offsetting installation costs.
  • Sustainability: Installing a charge point at home encourages greener choices and reduces carbon emissions.

Considering Your Options?

The scheme is available until 31 March 2027, with higher grant levels from April 2026. Reviewing your eligibility early helps ensure a smooth installation process.

Conclusion

Whether you’re a landlord looking to enhance your rental properties, or a renter or flat owner aiming to make EV ownership more convenient, the UK Government’s grants offer an excellent opportunity. With funding now confirmed until 31 March 2027 and increased grant levels from April 2026, this is a strong opportunity to reduce installation costs.
