EV Charging Grants to Support Fleet Electrification: Cut Costs and Build Smarter Infrastructure

Transitioning to an electric vehicle (EV) fleet isn’t just a smart environmental decision; it’s a strategic investment in operational efficiency, resilience, and long-term cost savings. But for many businesses, one of the biggest questions at the start of this journey is: How do we fund the charging infrastructure to support it?

That’s where UK Government EV charging grants come in. Specifically, the Workplace Charging Scheme and the Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets.

Whether you’re electrifying a handful of vehicles or building a large-scale network, these grants can help reduce the cost of your EV charging installation. In this blog, we’ll explore how each grant supports your fleet strategy and how Voltari helps you make the most of your funding options.

Which EV Charging Grants Are Available for Fleet Electrification?

Workplace Charging Grant (Workplace Charging Scheme)

This EV charging grant helps cover the cost of installing EV charging points at your business premises. It offers:

  • Up to £350 per charging socket.
  • Up to 40 sockets per business (up to £14,000 total).
  • Support for chargers used by both staff and fleet vehicles.

Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Grant for Staff and Fleets

This grant supports the infrastructure needed to prepare your site for long-term EV growth — such as wiring, groundworks, and installation of building systems — even if you’re not installing all chargers right away. Through this grant, eligible businesses can access:

  • Up to £15,000 per site.
  • Support exclusively for small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs with up to 249 employees).
  • Funding tied to the installation of at least one working charge point.

The Infrastructure Grant includes two parts:

  • £350 per socket installed (similar to the workplace scheme).
  • £500 per enabled parking bay, to help future-proof your site.

Although both grants support EV charging at business premises, they can’t be combined for the same project. Both offer substantial support, so it’s important to choose the one that best fits the scope and goals of your project, whether you're focusing on immediate needs or planning for long-term growth.

How EV Charging Grants Support Fleet Electrification

Scalable Workplace EV Charging for Growing Fleets

These grants make it easier to build charging infrastructure that grows with your fleet. Whether you’re installing a few charge points or developing a fully scalable commercial EV charger network, government support helps reduce upfront investment.

Charging at Business Premises

Both the workplace charging grant and the infrastructure grant apply to workplace EV charging at sites owned or leased by your business. This centralises operations, reduces reliance on public charging, and helps maintain greater control over charging costs and logistics.

Note: These grants do not cover installations at employees’ homes.

Flexible EV Charging Installation Models

Voltari tailors your EV charging installation to suit your operations, from single-site depots to multi-site businesses. Infrastructure grant funding enables you to prepare for future growth without repeating costly groundwork later.

Smarter Budget Allocation

By using the grants available strategically, you can stretch your infrastructure budget further, freeing up funds for vehicle procurement, route planning tools, or driver engagement. Voltari helps you navigate the process and avoid common pitfalls.

Who’s Eligible for These EV Charging Grants?

Your business may qualify if:

  • You are a registered UK business, charity, or public sector organisation.
  • You own or lease the premises where chargers will be installed.
  • You use approved EV charging points and an authorised installer (Voltari is OZEV-approved).
  • You meet the SME criteria for the infrastructure grant.

Voltari can help you determine your eligibility and choose the right approach for your fleet.
